A dental implant is a screw-shaped titanium post that is placed into your jawbone to simulate a tooth root. After approximately 3-4 months, the implant forms a union with your natural bone structure. When the final crown is placed, it will feel, look, and function as if your natural tooth was never missing.
This procedure is a team effort between you, your dentist, and your periodontist. Depending on your specific circumstance, a treatment plan will be tailored to meet your needs. Implants may be placed for multiple reasons including:
Approximately 1-2 days. Every patient differs on level of discomfort.
The xray shown above is a healed space where a tooth was previously extracted and bone grafted.
The implant was placed and will heal for 3 months prior to the general dentist placing final abutment and crown.
If a tooth is requiring extraction and an implant is desired, in certain specific instances, the implant may be performed at the same time as the extraction. Your periodontist will evaluate whether you meet the criteria to have this performed.
Approximately 1-2 days. Every patient differs on level of discomfort.
The tooth shown above is broken down and very loose. It was deemed hopeless, requiring extraction.
Extraction was performed with an implant placed immediately into the socket site with a surrounding bone graft. The healing will take 4 months prior to abutment and crown placement by the general dentist.
