DENTAL EMERGENCIES

WHAT IS A DENTAL EMERGENCY?

A dental emergency is any situation that poses an immediate threat to the health of your teeth and supporting gums. It could be the result of trauma to the mouth or can be caused by an infection. Any dental emergency should be evaluated by a professional as soon as possible to ensure the best possible outcome.

We urge you to call us at the first sign of an emergency.

HOW SOON CAN I BE SEEN?

We offer same-day emergency treatment for most situations. Please call immediately for an appointment.

WHAT TO DO IF A TOOTH IS AVULSED OR DISLODGED?

  1. Pick the tooth up by the crown (top) portion, not the root.
  2. If the tooth looks dirty/contaminated, gently rinse in cold tap water before implanting. Do not scrape or wipe tooth off. Important cells may stil be on the root to help with re-implantation.
  3. Try to make certain of correct orientation to re-implant tooth in mouth. See your dental professional for follow-up treatment immediately.
  4. It is best to re-implant tooth within one hour of trauma.
  5. If immediate on-scene re-implantation is not possible, transport tooth in cold mild, saliva, or saline. Chance of successful re-implantation is inversely proportional to time out of socket!
